Changing the sounds of Windows has three usual routes: Windows' own Sound panel (one event at a time), Sound Manager (a free, open-source scheme manager by ORelio, with a community collection of packs), and Stardock's SoundPackager (a paid program with the WinCustomize gallery). SlyPilot's Sound Themer is a fourth, free one, built for Windows 10 and 11.
Facts about other products were checked on 2026-10-31 from their own pages (Sound Manager's GitHub page, Stardock's product page); see their sites for the current features and prices.

🧭 What Is Different About the Sound Themer
- A pack never leaves holes. A pack with 28 sounds still covers every event Windows plays: the missing ones borrow the pack's closest sound, so a reminder sounds like the pack's notification instead of the old Windows chime.
- It tells you what you will hear. Plain words, when each event plays, which ones Windows 11 skips, and how much of a pack is its own (Own 28 · borrowed 24 · short cues 7).
- Licences are kept. Every gallery pack carries its credits and licence text, and Share follows the licence.
- It goes with the rest of SlyPilot. Matching Sets put on a pointer pack and a sound pack that belong together in one click (eleven built-in sets drawn on your PC, or save your own); modes, quiet hours, voice, the command palette and AI assistants can all change the sounds, and SlyPilot's own sounds (dictation, voice commands, timers) are themed with the rest.
✋ When Another Tool Is the Better Choice
- You want a new start-up sound (the one before sign-in): Sound Manager can change it; SlyPilot does not touch Windows' files.
- You use Windows 7 or 8: Sound Manager supports them; SlyPilot needs Windows 10 or 11.
- You want the WinCustomize library: its packs are SoundPackager files, encrypted by Stardock. SlyPilot cannot open them; use SoundPackager.
- You change one sound once a year: Windows' own panel does that.
🔁 Using Them Together
- Sound Manager packs (
.ths) open in SlyPilot directly, and the Sound Manager collection is listed in Get more packs.... Those packs are marked "for your own use", because the collection has no licence of its own. - All of these write the same Windows sound scheme, so the last one you apply wins. SlyPilot's Restore... can always bring back your sounds from before SlyPilot.
- Windows' Sound panel shows SlyPilot's packs by name (SlyPilot.ocean), and SlyPilot's own events under SlyPilot.
