SlyPilot's Head Mouse vs. Camera Mouse, Enable Viacam and Project Gameface

Moving the pointer with your head through an ordinary webcam is not new, and the people who built the first tools for it deserve credit: Camera Mouse (Boston College) and Enable Viacam have helped people use computers hands-free for many years, for free. Google's open-source Project Gameface added facial gestures. If one of them works well for you, keep it.
SlyPilot's head mouse is newer and comes at the problem from a different side: it lives in the same program as over 550 voice commands, dictation, the Touch Bar and the Magnifier, so a hands-free day is one program, not three.

🧭 What Is Different About SlyPilot's
It points, it doesn't push. Most head mice move the pointer like a mouse: over time where you look and where the pointer is drift apart, and you correct. SlyPilot's default maps where your head points to a place on the screen: a short calibration fixes "straight ahead" as the middle, a small turn reaches the edges, and small wobbles are filtered out. Say "centre head mouse" any time to calibrate again.
It reads like it clicks. Clicks by holding still happen only after a movement, so reading or resting never clicks by accident, and Clicks on / off on the bar stops them for a long read.
It is one program. Point with your head, say "scroll down", "next tab", "show numbers" and "seven" to click a link, dictate a reply, zoom with the Magnifier: no switching between tools that each want the camera, the microphone or the screen edge.
⚖️ When Another Tool Is the Better Choice
- You click with facial gestures (a smile, an open mouth, raised eyebrows): Project Gameface does that; SlyPilot clicks by holding still, by voice or by a switch.
- You need a long track record: Camera Mouse and Enable Viacam have been used by many people for many years. SlyPilot's head mouse is new and has been tested on one Surface front camera; it is steadiest near the middle of the screen.
- You use an eye tracker (Tobii and others): Windows' own Eye Control is made for that hardware.
